The challenge
Growing populations. Rapid development. Increased pressure on natural areas, clean rivers, streams and valuable fish and wildlife habitat. How can we achieve balance between development and conservation? What are the best ways to accommodate growth while protecting the region’s environment and quality of life?
Our approach
Blend. Balance. Integrate. Use long-term vision, collaborative effort and holistic values to guide development that protects clean water and honors co-existence. Design for this generation and those to come. Design the built environment with nature in mind.
The design competition
Integrating Habitats will challenge entrants to work across disciplines in collaborative teams to create elegant and functional designs for conceptualized sites typical of the Portland metropolitan region. The competition’s challenge is to create successful and innovative site designs that blend open space access, site planning, and environmental preservation and restoration in construction and development.
The design categories
neighborhood infill development with a remnant oak woodland/savannah habitat interface
mixed use development with a riparian forest habitat interface
commercial development with a lowland hardwood forest habitat interface
Participants
Students and practitioners from all relevant disciplines, including landscape architecture, architecture, planning, urban design, stormwater management, engineering, water quality, ecology, wildlife biology and development, are encouraged to participate.
Outstanding features
A world-renowned jury will select the very best designs and announce them at an award event. In addition, citizens and communities will select their favorite designs via the People’s Choice Awards, a web-based gallery voting system. The Design Guide, a publication featuring the top choices, will be distributed throughout the region and beyond to promote projects that feature nature-friendly development and serve as a definitive resource for the design and development communities on solutions to protecting and restoring nature in new and re-developments.

i am going to change my boxers food from purina to something else, but i dint know what to change it too. and i want to buy the biggest bag, but how long would that last because im willing to pay the price i just want it to last.
Wellness is at least 10000 times better than SD:
I have researched this in depth since my poor dog died of kidney failure due to poor quality dog food!!(this is the only reason I answer these questions … to try and save a dogs life or at least to not let him/her suffer because of bad food)
Fromm Dog Food is Great for dogs and cats …http://www.frommfamily.com/ $42- $45 per 30 lb bag
NO fillers….some good quality grains….NO corn….gluten or by-products or wheat
ALL human grade food….fruits…veggies and probiotics!!WHOLE fruits and veggies!!!! Just like the kind we get at our grocery stores!
check it out you wont regret it !
http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/TOTW has a high protein content (not recommeded for non athletic dogs)
Taste of the Wild contains Ethoxyquin which is a toxic fish preservative. (TOTW says that the cooking process kills all of it but it scared me away from their product)
around $42 for a 30 lb bag …. its the cheapest 6 star food ..
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ lots of great dog food choices on this site !!
Orijen and Welness are great but it is $60 – $80 for a 30 lb bag…high protein as well ..not good for non athletic dogsOrijen is WAY to high in protein for a non working/non-agility dog ..
Fromm Is what my puppy gets it has a lower protein % and great ingredients! 5 outta 6 stars due to lower protein (but most dogs should not have high protein levels …. It makes their kidneys work overtime for no reason)
You can get it online and if you go to the website you can find stores near you .. they wont be at walmarts and the like… they are in feed stores .. Agway..tractor supply stores etc
IF your dog is not going to be a hard working/agility dog all this high protein can do more harm than good in the long run,,, you wont notice it now but it can take its toll on a dogs kidneys as it ages.
there is also a brand called 4health at the tractor supply store.. it is only $30 for a 30 lb bag.. and it seems to be of good quality. (not as good as the foods mentioned above but it good for the price if you are on a tight budget.)
also of you go to http://www.tractorsupply.com you can get a printable $5 off coupon!!
they have tons of low and high end foods there(including TOTW and 4 Health)
This video topped 20,000 views in less than 5 months. Not bad for a 9 pound Dancing Chihuahua. My Boy is an Amazing little dude. He rocks, he rolls, he is all that and a bag of fine tortilla chips with premium salsa…This dog has the dance moves of a Champion. You should see how fast he runs. He is like LIGHTNING!
Duke Blues the Amazing Chihuahua loves those little Chicken Sausage treats by Tamar Geller from the canine section grocery cooler at Fred Meyer’s. He will dance up a storm for them. If only I could get him to sing for them on queue maybe I could make some cash registers ring like in the words of the funny Joe Ely tune he likes to dance to. Duke is not your ordinary Chihuahua. He is in training to not only be my Service Animal, but to eventually become a Therapy Animal since he is especially good around Children and Elderly people.
Exercise is the number one thing a dog needs besides the essentials of Air, Water, Food, and Sleep. I try to walk my dog at least 2 miles daily and he also likes to play and dance. Dancing is a good way to keep his hind legs coordinated and strong. This video is a sample of his “exercising” in the form of “Doggie Dancing”.
Duke Blues thanks you for watching his antics while his Human made odd noise on a fine Hohner Meisterklasse Harmonica in the Key of C. He really does sing in harmony sometimes depending on his mood…
The background song is added for obvious effect and is protected as fair use since I am performing additional instrumentation and vocals along with Duke dancing like Fred Astaire has been re-incarnated in a 9 pound canine.
The gender altered Lyrics to Joe Ely’s song (which I obviously messed up on) are:
O weary me
I’m broke as a man can be
My bills are all due, I got holes in my shoe
Bill collectors, they won’t let me sleep
If I Could Teach My Chihuahua To Sing
I could make cash registers ring
What a sight to behold him, he could sit on my shoulder
And whimper in harmony
If I Could Teach My Chihuahua To Sing
What a wonderful world it would be
I could take him to the border and teach him how to order
Margaritas and Fajitas Senoritas would bring
The circus is coming to town
The telephone lines are down
While the tight rope they’re stretchin’, my puppy is fetchin’,
The tin cans all scattered around…
If I Could Teach My Chihuahua To Sing
The whole would live in peace
Instead of them fightin’, everyone would be writin’
Love letters to Senators and Police
If I Could Teach My Chihuahua To Sing
What brave new world it would be
I could take him to China, on a big Jet Airliner
And Bark in the Park ’till the Freedom Bells Ring
If I Could Teach My Chihuahua To Sing
There’d be no more sorrow and grief
I could take him to the border and teach him how to order
Guacamole and Posole, and feel Holy and Free!
I am in the process of writing new verses to add more humor to this awesome song that my Dog Duke loves to dance to.
