Did Beniful dog food make your dog sick?

September 29th, 2009

I fed my dog Beniful for about two weeks. We switched him to that temporarily until we found a vet that sold Science Diet dog food. Within those two weeks, my dog got terrible diahrrea. One day after switching him back to Science Diet, the diahrrea went away. Did your dog get sick, too?
I’m aware that switching diet can cause diahrrea. However, we fed him Nutro before Science Diet, and he didn’t get sick.

My sister in law’s dog got sick off of Beniful. Vet seems to like how the dog is doing with Science Diet. (BTW, both Nutro and Beniful were recalled during the whole ordeal a while back)

When feeding your pet a new food, introduce it slowly. If you feed too much too soon, your pet could suffer from stomach upset, diarrhea, vomiting, excess gas, or constipation.

Normal bacteria in the intestine help to digest food. A sudden change in food can result in changes in the number and type of bacteria and their ability to help digest food. Therefore, a pet needs to be switched to a new food slowly to prevent intestinal upset. By ’slowly,’ we mean over the course of 7-10 days go from feeding 100% of the previous food to 100% of the new food. For example, make a mixture that contains 25% of the new food and 75% of the old food and feed that for several days. Then make it 50-50 for several days, then 75% new food to 25% old food for several days. Then you can start feeding 100% new food. If at any time your pet starts vomiting, or has loose stools or appears constipated, slow the rate at which you are switching him over.

merrick or wellness dog food? which is better for a yorkie? help!?

September 29th, 2009

my dog currently eats nutro puppy bites and she isn’t crazy about it and her coat isn’t as shiny and soft as I would like it to be. I want a good food for her (that wont break the bank lol). My vet isn’t much help…he just says to feed her whatever and she will eat when she is hungry enough!

I feed Wellness…Ive gone through 2 different brands and they like Wellness,so that’s what Ive been feeding the past 5months. Im sure the food has bettered their coats though I have been doing a new grooming regimen as well…so I feel like a combination of the 2 (food and new grooming products) have made their coats shiny and strong.

Natural Balance Dog Food?

September 27th, 2009

I bought Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Vegetarian Formula dog food for my dog. I was wondering if it is a good dog food and what kind of reaction did it have with your dog. My dog has Food Allergies and believe she is allergic to chicken and beef. thank you

I love this stuff and it’s often on sale at petco. My vet told me it’s the only commercial hypoallergenic food he’d ever recommend. But you might want to get some protein in him. I feed the dry Sweet Potato and Venison but there’s also Duck and Potato. My dog doesn’t have allergies, I just like the food and mix it in 50/50 with his other dry food.

anyone one know about innova dog food? is it really the best? is it better than pro plan which my dog eats now

September 27th, 2009

I recently put my Standard Poodle on Innova. He is doing better on it than any other food he had been on. He has always had a problem keeping weight on. Vets were worried he had Addisons.
Since I put him on Innova, he is up to "recommended" weight and holding. Also, since there are no fillers..he only poops once a day. Some of those other foods I had tried on him (Pedigree, Purina, Natural Choice even) he was pooping like 3-4 times a day.

I do tend to agree that not even "the best" dog food is good for every dog. I had a Rottie who would only eat Dads. She was healthy, coat shiny, skin great. Never had any kind of health issues. She lived til she was 17. If you ask people…Dads is one of the worst foods out there, but my dog thrived on it.
