Safe Dog Food Brands

March 11th, 2010

Here is info and some pretty good brands! The info is as accurate as possible but not perfect! I do not own the brands and I’m not saying their the only safe ones but I just recommend them! I am not responsible for anything! Use your best judgment!

I’d like to say that it was the massive snow and cabin fever that made my son start eating dog food, but truth is, he’s a recovering addict.

Has anyone else experienced problems with Wellness dog food?

February 16th, 2010

I have considered switching my dog to Wellness Core. I’ve been doing a lot of research on different dog food brands. It gets a good rating on dogfoodanalysis.com and is reasonably priced in my area however every personal consumer review I’ve seen has been of severe diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, terrible gas, bloating, etc.

In one video review of the product, the consumer pointed out what looked to be fish bones in the product.

Has anyone tried or used this food and had problems.

I had a very geriatric dog who would have bouts of constipation every couple of months. I would give her a handful of Wellness mixed in her regular food for a week, and it would put her bowels right.
As she had a sensitive stomach in her old age, I was careful what I fed, and Wellness sure didn’t do her any harm. However, if I gave her too much of it, it would cause loose stools.
( but teenage dogs are different than a youngster.)

ATTN: Wellness dog food or Solid Gold which is better for my Great Dane PuppyNeed answers FAST?

February 14th, 2010

wellness or solid gold
Wellness has chicken fat in it, where Solid gold does Not, But wellness has 2 meant for the first ingrediant to solid gold has one, welness deboned chicken, deboned whitefish, solid Gold Bison
I went with Solid gold welness was 60 for a 30 lbs bag, where solid gold was on 53

While Solid Gold is a good food it is a bit grain heavy and a little low on meat content.
Wellness Super5 Mix Chicken is a good choice (do not feed a lamb based food )

Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul Large breed Adult or Regular Adult is a lso a very good choice as is Merrick.

Taste of the Wild is also a very good quality food for a Dane. It is grain free and has a lot of meat protein.

Wellness dog food VS Orijen dog food?

February 11th, 2010

Okay, i made the choice to switch my maltese’s dog food. I have researched wellness and orijen, i like the ingredients in both, but can’t decide. it’s okay that orijen expensive.. but i am concerned it’s made in canada? they also seem like they over exagerate. example: fresh deboned chicken, fresh deboned turkey, and so on and so forth. i don’t know. it sounds fishy? also i like how theres more wholesome ingredients in wellness, and less. in orijen theres a really long list. thanks guys,

I have researched this in depth since my poor dog died of kidney failure due to poor quality dog food!!
Fromm Dog Food is Great for dogs and cats …http://www.frommfamily.com/ $42- $45 per 30 lb bag
NO fillers….some good quality grains….NO corn….gluten or by-products or wheat
ALL human grade food….fruits…veggies and probiotics!!
check it out you wont regret it !

http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/TOTW has a high protein content (not recommeded for non athletic dogs)
Taste of the Wild contains Ethoxyquin which is a toxic fish preservative. (TOTW says that the cooking process kills all of it but it scared me away from their product)
around $42 for a 30 lb bag …. its the cheapest 6 star food ..

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ lots of great dog food choices on this site !!

Orijen is great but it is $60 – $80 for a 30 lb bag…high protein as well ..not good for non athletic dogs
Fromm Is what my puppy gets it has a lower protein % and great ingredients! 5 outta 6 stars due to lower protein (but most dogs should not have high protein levels …. It makes their kidneys work overtime for no reason)
You can get it online and if you go to the website you can find stores near you .. they wont be at walmarts and the like… they are in feed stores .. Agway..tractor supply stores etc
IF your dog is not going to be a hard working/agility dog all this high protein can do more harm than good in the long run,,, you wont notice it now but it can take its toll on a dogs kidneys as it ages.
