What is your opinion of science diet dog food?
November 27th, 2009
I am looking to find a good dog food brand for my 1 year old beagle and 10 week old yorkie. My beagle tends to have a sensitive stomach so we recently switched him to science diet, which he loves. My yorkie is also on science diet and seems to be doing fine with it also. Out of curiosity I looked science diet up on the interent to see what rating it has with consumers. I was shocked to hear some of peoples responses as this is such a highly recommended dog food brand. Although I realize I probably should have done this research before I switched my dogs I am just curious for your opinions. Thank you so much for your time and help.
Can anyone recommend a better dog food for me in the same price braket? I really can’t afford to pay anymore for dogfood than we already do. I figure if I do have to stick with SD at least my dogs love is and do very well on it and I know it is better than grocery store brands.
here is a good "independent" web site to review most dog foods
they rate from 1 star to 6,
4 or more is considered good
Science Diet only gets a one, not a good rating

like others have mentioned
too much corn (hard to digest)
many of their dog foods include "meat byproducts" BAD

I personally don’t like the ingredients. It’s full of fillers (corn, by products, etc). It’s definitely not on my list of foods to feed a dog. Many of the vets recommend it because they get veterinary diets from Hills.

I wouldnt feed it to my dogs… I know a lot of people swear by it but its definitely not for me. I dont like the big-brand commercial foods which sponsor vets at all – that includes Science Diet, Iams, Eukenuba etc. Have you looked into Eagle Pack Holistic?

Read the ingredients and decide for yourself.
Brewer’s rice, rice flour, wheat, and corn are all among the main ingredients. Dogs can’t even digest these things, they’re just fillers. Read further into the ingredients, and you will find all sorts of other things that do absolutely no good to dogs and are just there as a worthless filler. Meat is severely lacking in science diet. It’s not the worst food out there, but it’s certainly not as healthy as they claim it is.

It is garbage food, the reason vets recommends it is because the get a kick back from company if they recommend it and sell it.
