The Shiba Inu (柴犬?) is the smallest of the six original and distinct breeds of dog from Japan.[1]

A small, agile dog that copes very well with mountainous terrain, the Shiba Inu was originally bred for hunting.[1][2] It is similar in appearance to the Akita, though much smaller in stature.

[edit] Appearance
The Shibas frame is compact with well-developed muscles. Males and females are distinctly different in appearance: males are masculine without coarseness, females are feminine without weakness of structure. Males 14 1/2 inches to 16 1/2 inches (3543 cm) at withers. Females 13 1/2 inches to 15 1/2 inches (3341 cm). The preferred size is the middle of the range for each sex. Average weight at preferred size is approximately 23 pounds (10 kg) for males, 17 (8 kg) pounds for females. Males have a height to length ration of 10 to 11, females slightly longer. Bone is moderate.

[edit] Health
Health conditions known to affect this breed are glaucoma, cataracts, hip dysplasia, and luxating patella.[12] Shibas are also prone to food allergies. Epilepsy is also becoming common in several bloodlines in Australia and the USA. Overall; however, they are of great genetic soundness and few Shibas are diagnosed with genetic defects in comparison to other dog breeds.[citation needed]

[edit] Grooming
These are fantastically clean dogs, so grooming needs will likely be at a minimum for most individuals. A Shiba Inu coat is short, coarse and naturally waterproof, so there is little need for regular bathing. However, there is one drawback - shedding, also known as blowing coat. They have a thick undercoat that can protect them from temperatures well below freezing. Shedding is heaviest during the seasonal change, but brushing should be performed on a daily basis whenever possible.

Kane eating dinner

February 8th, 2010

He’s been on a fresh raw diet for over 2 years and is in the best of health. The vet has always advocated against feeding raw because it’ll kill Kane and recommends crappy dog foods such as Science Diet that’s 80% corn and I’ve told them that’s what I’ve been feeding. After doing bloodwork, he’s amazed at Kane’s condition, his coat, teeth, etc. That “Science Diet” sure is working well.

Does Blue Buffalo have more meat than Wellness dog food?

February 7th, 2010

I have my dog on wellness, but her poop is to runny, and I checked the ingredients and there is no by products it rated 5 or 6 stars out 6, but doesn’t have enough meat for a big dog like her. So I was wondering does blue buffalo dog food have more meat is it good quality?
I also took her to the vet because we thought she had worms they tested and she did not

The runny poo problem can’t be due to Wellness not having enough meat. Wellness has more quality meat content than probably 90% of all dog food.

It might be that your dogs digestive system is sensitive to some ingredient(s) in the Wellness. High quality grains are actually sometimes rougher on dogs with sensitive stomachs. Dogs also can develop food allergies.

You could switch to a grain-free formula to see if its the grain, or switch to a 100% or 95% beef formula (like EVO or Before Grain) - to see if its any of the other stuff in the Wellness formula. Those 100%/95% lines also offer things other than beef - if your Wellness formula contains beef then try a 100%/95% of something that your Wellness doesn’t have in it - like Venison, Buffalo, etc.

Just note that the 100% formulas don’t meet AAFCO standards to be used as stand-alone, complete and balanced nutrition for your pet. The 95% formulas do meet the standard.

And of course - you would want to make such a switch gradually, as switching abruptly to a very different food can cause diarreah itself.

But if your dog has persistent diarreah - you really do need to consult a vet.

February 5th, 2010

Heres another short clip from Star Wars - Episode II in XD 3D. Watch with red-blue 3D glasses in HD fullscreen & move back. Technically one of the most difficult clips Iv ever done, its short but very sweet. If you run 3D algorythms in your studio test them on this free clip taken from moviepro.net and then compare with my XD conversion. It will like comparing steak with dog food.
